South Terrebonne looking to go 2-0; Ellender to op

South Terrebonne looking to go 2-0; Ellender to open season on Friday

South Terrebonne, which was the lone Terrebonne Parish High School to post a win on Friday, will look to go 2-0 on the season as their archrivals, Ellender, will play at STHS Memorial Stadium on Friday to start the season.

The Gators, who beat West St. John last week 31-28, will play Class 5A Ponchatoula on Thursday at The Swamp in Bourg.

Also in action last week, Vandebilt fell to Parkview Baptist 35-14, while H.L. Bourgeois fell to Riverside Academy, 23-20. Vandebilt and Assumption will play on Thursday at Buddy Marcello Stadium, while H.L. Bourgeois is scheduled to play at St. Charles on Friday.

Terrebonne fell at St. James, 28-7, and will play at Destrehan this Friday.

South Terrebonne 31

West St. John 28

At Bourg, Phillip Livas returned a kickoff 95 yards for a score and also rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, Livas sealed the victory over the 2004 Class 2A state champions with an interception.

Livas’ first touchdown run came from 31 yards out. Alex Billiot scored on a 10-yard jaunt followed by Livas’ two-point run to give STHS a 14-8 lead in the first quarter. Livas’ second TD run came on the first play of the second quarter when he bolted 26 yards to the end zone.

In the third quarter, Ben Landry hit a 30-yard field goal to give South Terrebonne a 24-8 lead. Billiot finished with 105 yards and two TDs, while Scott Chauvin added 81 yards on the ground.

Parkview Baptist 35

Vandebilt 14

In Baton Rouge, the Eagles scored 21 points in the first 13 minutes of the game and coasted to the victory. Vandebilt got on the board when Jacob Kearns intercepted a pass and took it 72 yards for a touchdown. Jacob Chauvin ran in the two-point conversion to pull the Terriers within 21-8 at the half.

Vandebilt Catholic scored the final touchdown with 2:31 left in the game when Ben Bergeron hooked up with Evan Mistich for a 73-yard score. Mistich caught seven passes for 128 yards. Tyler Koster led the Terriers rushing attack with 34 yards on 10 carries.

Riverside Academy 23

H.L. Bourgeois 20

The Braves had a game-tying field attempt blocking with 20 seconds left and ended up falling in the non-district contest at Tom B. Smith Memorial Stadium.

Travis Watts, who finished with 60 yards on 16 carries in the game, scored on a 3-yard run for the Braves. Christian Williams scored on a 34-yard rush which pulled HLB to 14-13. The final Braves’ score came when Jake Hebert found Blake McClanahan with a 9-yard pass with 1:27 left in the third quarter. After Sidney Mitchell’s fumble recovery, HLB drove to the Riverside 22-yard line and attempted the field goal, which was blocked with 20 seconds left.
