Colonels Begin Week Three of Spring Drills
Colonels Begin Week Three of Spring Drills
After holding their first scrimmage on Saturday, the Nicholls football team began week three of spring drills on Monday afternoon with a 21-period workout at the Nicholls Practice Fields.

"We are very pleased with our effort this afternoon," said head coach Jay Thomas. "Our players, especially the younger guys, got a taste of game-like situations in our scrimmage on Saturday, and we thought they responded well. There is still a lot of teaching left to do, but it's a very exciting time and the intensity is definitely there."

The practice, which saw the Colonels in shells for the third time this spring, placed a team emphasis on third-and-long situations, as well as special teams work.

Nicholls will continue spring practice through April 5 when the Colonels hold their annual Red-Gray Game at 7 p.m. at John L. Guidry Stadium. Following the spring game, members of the 2005 Southland Conference Championship team will receive their championship rings as part of Ring Day Ceremonies. Tickets can be purchased at the Guidry Stadium ticket gate. Admission is $5.

The Colonels will kickoff their 2006 campaign on Thursday, August 31, as they will play host to Southern Arkansas. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
