Vandebilt Boys Soccer Advances to Finals

By: Walter Broussard

Vandebilt Catholic was fighting to make it to the finals in the Boys Division II playoffs Saturday night. The Terriers did just that when they cruised to a 4 to 0 win over the Alexandria Trojans.

The Terriers wasted no time in scoring when Gordon Blum put the ball in the net in the third minute. The ball looked to be cleared off the line, but was ruled a goal by the middle referee.

The Trojans looked like they would pull even in the 17th minute when they had a two on one with the goalie, but Vandibilt’s keeper came up with a good save.

In the 30th minute, an Alexandria defender tried chesting a cross down to clear the ball when the ball fell straight in front of on running Jeff Deblieux of Vandebilt who put a hard shot past the keeper from around the penalty area.

John Lapeyrouse took a corner soon after, which was headed home by T.J. Laperyouse of Vandebilt to put the Terriers up by 3-0.

The scoring looked like it would continue when the Terriers took a shot into the bottom right corner in, but No. nine of Alexandria cleared the ball off the line to keep them into the game.

The second half Alexandria came out strong and was fouled 30 yards out to set up a free kick. The Trojan’s No. seven took a hard low shot off the free kick only to watch hit the post and go out of bounds for a goal kick.

The Terriers would cap off the scoring  a little over an hour after starting as they went up 4 0.

The Terriers out shot the Trojans 32-8, and will advance to play East Ascension Saturday March 4th at 6:00pm. The game will be played at East Ascension’s home field.

The Lady Terriers beat East Ascension 1-0 in the Semi-Finals and will also be playing in the finals of Division II Soccer March 3rd at 6:30pm against St. Thomas More.
