The Central Lafourche Trojans boy’s soccer team season came to an end Wednesday night when
they loss to Northshore 2-1 in the Regional Round of the playoffs.
The players didn’t know what to expect coming into the year. They had lost
13 seniors the prior year along with their head coach. "With all we lost last year, I didn’t know what to expect coming into this year" Walter Broussard said." "I just knew we would have to play and give it our all, all year long."
The Trojans started off the season with a 1-0-2 record after appearing in the November Futbol Classico. After that many were questioning what was going on as the Trojans dropped to 6-8-2 with a 1-3 district record.
The team suddenly found themselves out of the district race title and fighting to secure a place in the playoffs. They were forced to win their final 8 district games, or possibly missing the playoffs since the first time the program came into existence at Central Lafourche. They answered the pressure by doing just that, including a shootout win against district champions Terrebonne Tigers.
After the exciting comeback to place second in district 7-5A, the team drew wildcard John Ehret. The game sat at a 0-0 tie until the 70th minute when Central Lafourche scored a goal, followed by around 4 minutes later. The Trojans finished with 40 shots to the Patriots 3.
The Trojans then watched their season come to an end against Northshore after the opponents built a 2 point lead against them. The Trojans tried to muster a comeback with 20 minutes left in the game, but fell short despite their efforts.
After a season full of excitement, one can’t wonder what will be in store for this program in the years to come. The team will be losing 5 starting seniors and have high hopes for the 2006-2007 season.
