Plummer named Player of the Week

Sophomore point guard Katherine Plummer was named the Aeropostale/Southland Conference Player of the Week Monday thanks to her solid performance against Stephen F. Austin this weekend.

The Brooklyn, N.Y., native helped lead Nicholls to arguably its biggest win ever, as the Lady Colonels defeated SFA, 68-67 on Saturday at Stopher Gym.

Plummer finished with 18 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and three steals in 40 minutes of action.

With 13 seconds left, Plummer made the go ahead basket to give Nicholls its first victory over SFA since the 1984-85 season.

"I'm glad to see her being rewarded for playing such an outstanding game," Nicholls coach Mark Cook said. "She had good numbers, but I think the thing that jumps out at me most is her eight assists. If our players don't make those shots, she doesn't have that many assists. Our victory was a real team effort and Kat (Plummer) played a pivotal role in that."

Plummer now becomes the first women's basketball player in three seasons to receive the honor.

The last Player of the Week from Nicholls was Jen Posey. Posey was awarded the honor during the 2002-03 season.

Nicholls will return to action Thursday when they travel for a key matchup against Northwestern State at 6 p.m.
