Terrebonne Parish Gets Ready to Relay For Life

Residents of Terrebonne Parish can expect to see a little more purple around town as the relaylogo.gifcommunity prepares for the 2006 Relay For Life, the American Cancer Society’s team event to fight cancer. Purple is the signature color of Relay For Life, and the event will return to Terrebonne Parish on Saturday, April 22, 2006. A kick off planned for Thursday, January 12, 2006 will officially get the new Relay season underway.

Relay For Life is the largest cancer fundraiser in the nation. Held in more than 4,200 communities nationwide last year, the event brings participants together to raise money for cancer research, education, advocacy and patient support programs.

The 2005 Relay For Life in Terrebonne Parish was a successful event, raising $168,400.00 for the American Cancer Society. “We are looking forward to building on last year’s event and are excited about having new teams and participants join us,” said Becky Dupre, event chair.  “This kick off is just the beginning of great things to come.”

The public is invited to learn more about Relay For Life at the kick off on Thursday, January 12 at TGMC’s Medical Atrium at noon and at 5:30 p.m. at TGMC’s Outreach Center in Southland Mall.
