Area children can liven up their winter holidays with camps at Nicholls State University.

High school baseball players can get pointers at Chip Durham’s Baseball Camp from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, and Sunday, Dec. 4, at Ray E. Didier Field. The camp is open to juniors and seniors on Saturday and to freshmen and sophomores on Sunday. This instructional prospect camp is designed for the serious high school player who wishes to play at the college level. Participants must bring their own gear. Registration is $75 in advance or $85 at the camp.

Camp Culinary will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, and Tuesday, Dec. 20. Chef George Kaslow, acting dean of the Chef John Folse Culinary Institute at Nicholls will teach junior chefs, ages 12 to 16 years, how to prepare simple and tasty meals for family dining. New and exciting recipes will be demonstrated. The registration fee is $120, which includes a chef’s hat and an apron. Space is limited, so early registration is recommended.

Campers in first through eighth grades will learn to hone their basketball skills at J.P. Piper’s Basketball Camp. Piper, head coach of the Colonels men’s basketball team, will hold camp 8:30 a.m. to noon on Monday, Dec. 19, and Tuesday, Dec. 20. The clinic will include two days of games, contests, prizes and instruction by Nicholls coaches, players and staffers. Campers will be grouped according to age and skill level. Registration is $50, which includes a camp T-shirt and one free ticket to the Colonels home basketball games on Monday, Dec. 19, and Thursday, Dec. 22.

The Science Adventures Camp will put science into the hands of elementary school children. Held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28 to Friday, Dec. 30, children in kindergarten through sixth grades will engage in a mixture of hands-on science investigations each day and take-home projects to share with family. Alice Gilmore, a Napoleonville science teacher, will teach the camp. Registration is $75.
