Peyton and Eli Manning will demonstrate the quarterbacking skills that have made them famous in the NFL at the “Air it Out” session at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, in Guidry Stadium at Nicholls State University. Part of the annual Manning Passing Academy, the demonstration will also feature a group of high-profile college quarterbacks. Admission is open to the public. *NBA HORNETS TO HOLD FREE BASKETBALL CAMP AT NICHOLLSThe Nicholls State University women’s basketball team will sponsor a children’s basketball clinic conducted by the New Orleans Hornets on Tuesday, July 24. The clinic is open to children ages 7 to 14. Participants are asked to either bring five canned goods or make a $5 donation to Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana, which serves much of south Louisiana, in lieu of an admission fee. Children ages 7 to 10 will participate from 9 a.m. to noon, and children 11 to 14 will participate from 1 to 4 p.m. Each session features three hours of basketball basics, a Hornet’s T-shirt and a photo with a Hornets player. Space is limited to 250 children per half-day session and pre-registration is required. Registration forms are available at www.hornets.com. *MAULDIN OF NICHOLLS ELECTED TO STATE CPA SOCIETY'S BOARD
Dr. Shawn Mauldin, a certified professional accountant and dean of the College of Business Administration at Nicholls State University, was recently elected to a two-year term as a board member at-large for the Society of Louisiana CPAs. He is the immediate past president of the LCPA’s south central chapter. Mauldin, a Thibodaux resident, received his bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in business administration, with an emphasis in accounting, from Nicholls. He received a doctorate from the University of Mississippi. Mauldin is widely published in academic and practitioner accounting journals. In 2005, he received the LCPA’s Lifetime Achievement in Accounting Education Award, recognizing his accomplishments as an outstanding educator and his many contributions to the accounting profession. The LCPA was organized in 1911 and represents more than 6,300 CPAs working in public practice, industry, government and education. It is considered the premier organization of accounting professionals in the state.
