Saints come to the Bayou…
Saints come to the Bayou…
By: Robert Barrilleaux, Jr.

The atmosphere was filled with excitement as you walked into St. Mary’s Nativity School, in bob1.jpgRaceland, on Thursday afternoon. You could tell that every student there was anxiously awaiting the arrival of their honored guest. As the time grew closer so did their anticipation, when New Orleans Saints Offensive lineman, Zach Streif, finally showed up there wait was over. The Saints selected St. Mary’s as a host of one of their Junior Mini camps. Along with Streif, were Saintsations cheerleader, Laura, and a few members from the Saint’s Community Affairs division.

After taking a few pictures and signing autographs, the students sat and listen to Jeff Gapultos, the activities coordinator, and Zach talk about the importance of avoiding getting in trouble and staying in school. Other topics stressed were spending time in the outdoors, exercising, and structural elements of football.

At the end of the day both the children and Streif were touched. Students Terrell Jones and bob2.jpgNicholas Falgout both said that this was a very fun and a great day. Jones added, “That it felt good to tackle Mike Vick (even if it was a dummy).” Zach ended his conversation by saying, “Its exciting to see someone who is so excited to see us.”

Gapultos added that they do the camps year round and they usually do two to three a week. For more information on Saints Junior Mini-camps go to the Saints website or call the Saint’s Community Affairs division for openings in dates.
