NSU Inducts 11 Students Into Hall of Fame

   THIBODAUX – Nicholls State University named 11 students to its Hall of Fame at the Nicholls Alumni Federation’s recent annual Awards for Excellence reception. This is the highest honor bestowed upon a student of Nicholls.Hall of Fame _093A.JPG

    The 2007 Hall of Fame honorees are Reid Michael Amedee of Houma, Lea Marie Bonvillain of Thibodaux, Magan Marie Brown of Thibodaux, Jessica Elizabeth Toups Canan, originally of Houma and now a New Orleans resident, Clint Michael Costanza of Holden, Bivonia Maria Jimenez of Thibodaux, Jennifer Kristen Page of Baton Rouge, Teresa D. Perry of Oakdale, Nicholas Jerome Rau of Houma, Leah Marie Talbot of Thibodaux and James Matthew Watkins Jr. of Houma.

   During the selection process, a committee reviews resumés illustrating the students’ scholarly and extracurricular performance. One half of the basis for selection is academic achievement and the other half is involvement with student activities. The committee recommends a list of finalists to the university president, who makes the final selection each year for the Nicholls Hall of Fame. 

   Amedee, a graduating pre-physical therapy biology senior, has been president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, treasurer of the Pre-Professional Medical Association, a community leader in La Maison du Bayou privatized housing and a member of the Greek Council, the Interfraternity Council, Emerging Leaders, Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society for first-year students and the 2005 Homecoming Court. He was recognized in the 2005 and 2006 editions of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.”
  
   Bonvillain, a fall 2006 marketing graduate, was president of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and the Student Programming Association, a member of the 2005 Homecoming Court, a group leader in the university’s new student orientation program and a member of Panhellenic and the group’s 2005 Woman of the Year. She was recognized in the 2005 and 2006 editions of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.”

   Brown, a graduating birth to five/early intervention family and consumer sciences senior, has been active in the Nicholls Association of Family and Consumer Science and served as vice chair of the Louisiana Association of Family and Consumer Science. She was also a member of the marching band, the concert band and the wind ensemble, treasurer of Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society for first-year students and a member of Kappa Omicron Nu Honor Society for human sciences, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

   Canan, a fall 2006 mass communication public relations graduate, was president of the Society of Professional Journalists and the Public Relations Student Society of America, a justice on the Student Government Association Supreme Court, treasurer of the Radio and Television News Directors Association, public relations director for the College Republicans, academic editor of La Pirogue yearbook and a staff writer at The Nicholls Worth student newspaper. She was also recognized in the 2005 and 2006 editions of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.”

   Costanza, a graduating pre-medicine biology senior, was president of Kappa Alpha Order fraternity, the KA delegate to the Interfraternity Council, a mentor with the Emerging Leaders Program, an assistant residence hall director and a member of the Greek Council, the Pre-Professional Medical Association and the University Honors Program. He was also recognized in the 2005 and 2006 editions of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.”  
  
   Jimenez, a graduating mass communication public relations senior, was president of the Governor’s Program on Abstinence collegiate club, recording secretary of the Catholic Daughter of the Americas and a member of Kappa Tau Alpha Honor Society in journalism and mass communication, Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society for first-year students, Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the University Honors Program, St. Thomas Aquinas Campus Ministry and the Public Relations Student Society of America.
  
   Page, a fall 2006 English graduate, was design and layout editor for The Nicholls Worth student newspaper and was a member of the University Honors Program, the Residence Hall Association, Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the English Society, the Society of Professional Journalists and Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma honor societies for first-year students. She was recognized in the 2006 edition of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges."

   Perry, a graduating mass communication public relations senior, was president of the Public Relations Student Society of America, treasurer and an actress with The Nicholls Players, director of Peer Assistance, a performer with Insight Theater and a member of the University Honors Program and Kappa Tau Alpha Honor Society in journalism and mass communication. She was also granted an internship with the Louisiana Center fro Women and Government.

   Rau, a graduating pre-medicine biology senior, was president of the Pre-Professional Medical Association, a student employee in the microbiology research laboratory, a member of the Biology Society, the 2006 Student Employee of the Year, the recipient of the John Waguespack Pre-Medical Service Award, and the first-place undergraduate winner in the 2006 American Society for Microbiology Research Competition. He was also honored in the 2006 edition of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and was granted early acceptance into medical school in the Tulane University Early Acceptance Program.

   Talbot, a graduating English senior, was president of Delta Zeta Sorority, president of the Student Programming Association, a group leader in the university’s new student orientation program, a member of the 2005 Homecoming Court and a member of Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma honor societies for first-year students, Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and the Order of Omega, a Greek leadership honor society. She was also recognized in the 2005 and 2006 editions of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.”

   Watkins, a graduating pre-medicine biology senior, was president of the Pre-Professional Medical Association, student vice president of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, a student research assistant in the Department of Biological Sciences, a first-place winner in the 2005 American Society for Microbiology regional research poster competition, organizer of a 2007

    Relay for Life team, a member of the Biology Society and a member of the first-place student organization booth at Family Day. He was also recognized in the 2006 edition of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.”
