It is that time of year again when the Christmas holidays are over, and it is season cleaning time. Since the new year is over, you are starting to more and more Christmas trees along side the road. However, what if these trees could be put to a better use than going into the dumpster?
The answer is they can! Central Lafourche's FFA Chapter, with the help of Thibodaux's and South Lafourche's chapters, are heading their annual effort for Christmas tree collections. SWDI has donated dumpsters to hold Christmas trees near the school's location, where they will then transport them to Fourchon. In march, Central's FFA's member's will do their part to help save our coast.
This effort has been going on for over 8 years and continues to be a complete success. The trees are anchored down in a craddle where the waves bring sediment over the trees, but get locked in as the wave head back to the middle of the bayou. Although it is a very small part of the coast that is actually saves, it makes a huge statement!
If you would like to donate your tree, please make sure that all lights and stands are not on the tree. Also, any ornaments should be removed. Then drive by any Lafourche High School, and drop them off in the designated dumpsters for more information.
