Messiah Montessori School 4th Annual Spring Gala
Messiah Montessori School 4th Annual Spring Gala

Messiah Montessori School, 1215 St. Charles Street, will hold its 4th Annual Spring Gala on Friday, May 5, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. This year’s theme is “A Tour of the World Through the Eyes of a Child”, and the event will feature the internationally-inspired art work of Messiah Montessori School students. The event will also offer a variety of culturally-derived cuisine options catered by Cashio’s. A coffee station with pastries will be provided by Coffee Zone and the music will be a performance of the South Louisiana Community Orchestra.

The silent and live auctions are a large part of the success of the gala. Jennifer Schwertz, fundraising coordinator for the event, is tremendously grateful for the enthusiasm shown by last year’s returning sponsors and this year’s new ones. “Corporate sponsorship has a direct impact on the number of families which can financially access our school. We are excited about the opportunities this event will provide for the business sponsors and for the community.” This year’s auction items include quilts created by the students, a LASIK procedure, a houseboat weekend vacation with offshore fishing, a 1 year hunting lease at Lake Houma, jewelry, gift certificates, and much more.

Messiah Montessori School brings an advanced educational approach to the Houma region. The faith-based Christian school features quality education for students through the 4th grade in a positive and cultivating educational environment. Messiah Montessori is based on the educational principles of Dr. Maria Montessori and the global educational model that she developed almost 100 years ago.

In addition to the elementary program, Messiah Montessori operates a pre-school for ages 3-5, a sensitive age period in the development of the child. Each classroom is filled with child-sized furniture and concrete sensorial learning materials which introduce the children to the advanced concepts of mathematics, science, and language at early ages. Children learn at their own pace in a non-competitive environment that emphasizes respect for each child. Each child learns independent research skills, as well as to work together in small groups. Messiah Montessori emphasizes advanced academics, a multi-lingual program, a love of the arts, music appreciation, character development, spiritual awareness, and social skills.

Corporate sponsorship is an essential part of the success of our non-profit educational institute. Fundraising events, such as the spring gala, help us to bring this educational model to more families in our community by maintaining a reasonable tuition rate, as compared with other Montessori schools around the country.

Messiah Montessori School serves families from Terrebonne, Lafourche, & St. Mary parishes. The school is an affiliate of the American Montessori Society, accredited by the Louisiana Montessori Association (a division of the LA Department of Education), and an extension of Harvest Cathedral, under the direction of Dr. Jules Boquet.

Tickets for the event are $40 for singles and $75 for couples. The fourth annual Spring Gala, “A Tour of the World Through the Eyes of a Child”, is 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. Friday, May 5th at the Harvest Cathedral building, located at 1224 Museum Drive. Attire for the evening is dressy casual. For more information, contact Jennifer Schwertz at (985) 857-8808.
