TGMC Recognized with Women’s Innovation Award

The Women’s Center at Terrebonne General Medical Center (TGMC) was recognized with a special recognition for an outstanding innovation project in women’s health by the Snowmass Institute and Berry and Associates of Centennial, Colorado.  The DSCN8832 redo.jpgSnowmass Institute recognizes women’s health facilities who promote outstanding innovation in women's health programming and service delivery.

“We are extremely proud of our Women’s Center and to be acknowledged for providing progressive services to women in our community.  We are pleased to offer state-of-the-art technology, a highly trained, friendly caring staff who provide excellent care in beautiful surroundings at our Women’s Center,” explained Phyllis Peoples, President and Chief Executive Officer.

TGMC was recognized for the degree to which the Women’s Center provides new ways to create customer value, focus, the number of people who benefited from the project, overall creativity, and the extent of team involvement in the project, according to Richard Ireland, President of the Snowmass Institute.

“The creation of the Women’s Center redesigned the way in which TGMC now provides women’s service,” said Laura Poole, Director of Women’s Services at TGMC.

The Women’s Center is the first center of its kind in the region.  It opened in May of 2006.  The Women’s Center is an 85,000 square foot facility that provides comprehensive health care services for women of all ages and at all stages of their lives.  The obstetrical section of the Women’s Center offers larger, private patient rooms to enhance the birthing experience, a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), well baby nursery, and lactation services.

Every patient has their own spacious private room and bathroom along with sleeping accommodations for a guest.  The rooms also feature large windows, which provide a lot of natural light that research shows to aid in the recovery process.

TGMC is the only hospital in the region to have a board certified neonatoligist on staff 24-7.  The Women’s Center houses a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) that is equipped for infants who have a high acuity, and weigh as little as 2.2 pounds and for those infants who may require ventilator support.

The Center provides adequate space for female gynecological surgery provided in surgical suites for same-day surgeries and procedures.  Personalized and intimate care is offered in comfortable rooms, some of which have courtyards.

The Women’s Imaging and Breast Center is also located in the Women’s Center.  The Women’s Imaging and Breast Center provides state-of-the-art technology that includes the latest diagnostic equipment including digital mammography, stereo-tactic breast biopsy, ultrasound, and bone densitometry.

“Over the past several years, women’s health care has evolved with the changing role of women and our Women’s Center was designed with the needs of today’s woman in mind.  Convenience, comfort, and the highest quality care were primary areas of concern in the designing and planning the Women’s Center,” said Mrs. Peoples.

The Women’s Center is not only equipped to provide clinical services, it also offers comprehensive educational resources for women across their lifespan in a resource library and through programs and classes.

“Many hospitals in our country have made changes in the way in which women’s services are provided.  At TGMC we see ourselves as an innovator by placing women’s health care needs on the forefront of our growth,” said Mrs. Peoples.

The Snowmass Institute is a division of The Ireland Corporation and was established in 1975.
