Two nurse leaders from Terrebonne General Medical Center (TGMC) were recognized for excellence in nursing at Nicholls State University recently. Teresita McNabb, RN, MSHSA,CNAA,BC, Vice President of Nursing Services and Cindy Hitt, RN, BSN,CRRN, Nurse Director of 5N (Medical/ Surgical Unit) were recipients of Excellence Awards from the Xi Zeta Chapter, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing at Nicholls State University Department of Nursing.
Mrs. McNabb was awarded the Nurse Leader Award. She has been an integral part of the TGMC team for over 22 years. Currently, she is the Vice President of Nursing Services and has served as Assistant Vice President of Nursing Services and has held various leadership positions in the Critical Care Department from staff nurse to Director of the Critical Care Unit. Mrs. McNabb holds certifications in advanced cardiac life support, critical care, trauma, certified nursing administration advanced, and advanced child life support. Some of her professional affiliations include Region III Healthcare Consortium, American College of Healthcare Executives, and being a member of American and Louisiana Organization of Nurse Executives.
Mrs. Hitt was awarded the Nurse Clinician Award. Mrs. Hitt has been a valuable member of the TGMC team for over 18 years. She began her career at TGMC as a Certified Nursing Assistant while she attended school. After graduation from nursing school she worked as a charge nurse, and then became a Nurse Director in 2003. She is certified in Medical Surgical & Rehabilitation Nursing. She also serves as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Francis Church.
These awards honor nurse leaders, educators and clinicians throughout the region and state. Only one award was given per category with a total of only three awards given, Nurse Clinician, Nurse Leader, and Nurse Educator. The recipients are nominated by a peer with qualities and qualifications then reviewed and scored by the Excellence Award Committee according to criteria for the appropriate category.
The awards were presented on Thursday, May 3, 2007 during the Sigma Theta Tau "Excellence Awards 2007" Banquet and Spring Program at Nicholls State University.
