TGMC Among Best in Nation Houma, LA (May 9, 2007) – Terrebonne General Medical Center has received the 2007 HealthGrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Patient SafetyTM. This recognition is a result of an annual study of America’s hospitals issued recently by HealthGrades which places Terrebonne General Medical Center among the best in the nation in terms of patient safety. The study, from the leading healthcare ratings company, examined every nonfederal hospital in the country over a three-year period and found that Terrebonne General had among the fewest patient-safety incidents.
Terrebonne General Medical Center is the only hospital in the Tri-parish region and one of only five non-teaching hospitals in Louisiana to receive the 2007 HealthGrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Patient Safety™.
“We are honored to receive this national distinction, said Phyllis Peoples, President and CEO. “This achievement is truly a team effort and could not be accomplished without the commitment to patient safety that is demonstrated on a daily basis by each and every physician, nurse, health care professional, and volunteer that is a part of the TGMC team here at the hospital,” said Mrs. Peoples.
HealthGrades is the leading healthcare ratings organization, providing ratings and profiles of hospitals, nursing homes and physicians. Consumers, and many of the nation’s largest employers, health plans and hospitals, rely on HealthGrades’ independent ratings and patient safety information to make healthcare decisions based on the quality of care.
On average, patients treated at Distinguished Hospitals for Patient Safety are also 40 percent less likely to experience an adverse, preventable event during their stay than patients treated at the bottom-performing hospitals.
“At TGMC patient safety is a culture, a habit and a way of life. In addition to providing quality care, our physicians and staff work very diligently to ensure that safety is a top priority when treating our patients,” added Mrs. Peoples.
TGMC is a nationally recognized integrated healthcare system consisting of a 321 licensed bed acute care facility complete with a range of services such as rehabilitation and skilled nursing units, outpatient surgery center, emergency care services, women’s center, the regions first women’s imaging and breast center, primary care services, and community outreach center.
TGMC has celebrated over 50 years of service, and is the largest community-based hospital in the tri-parish area of Terrebonne, Lafourche, and St. Mary parishes. The medical center serves as a major economic force for the community with a staff of over 1,200 employees, 60 volunteers, and a medical staff of over 160 registered physicians offering a variety of specialties. | Posted on Thursday, May 17, 2007 (Archive on Sunday, May 20, 2007) Posted by Walter Contributed by Walter
