Friends of Ellender Library Seeking Members
Friends of Ellender Library Seeking Members

Library-lovers are invited to join the newly established Friends of Ellender Memorial Library and attend a luncheon for members at noon on Tuesday, March 13 in the Plantation Suite of Bollinger Memorial Student Union at Nicholls State University.

The new organization will make book sales and other fundraisers possible to support the Nicholls library.

“Friends of Ellender Memorial Library will generate extra funding for the library to purchase special materials, sponsor cultural programs and better serve our students and patrons,” Carol Mathias, library director, said.

Tickets to the luncheon are included with annual membership dues, which are $25 for the general public and $15 for students. Higher membership levels include: sustaining for $50, sponsor for $100 and patron for $1,000 or more.

Membership also includes an invitation to Friends’ programs as well as a subscription to the Friends’ newsletter. Members who do not have a library card will also be provided a courtesy card entitling them to check-out privileges. Library cards are usually $12 for community members.

Mathias said the luncheon is included in this year’s annual dues as a way to encourage people to join. The luncheon program will feature highlights from the library’s archives and special collections department presented by archivist Clifton Theriot. The business portion of the luncheon will include the election of officers and appointments to the advisory board.

Preliminary plans for Friends’ activities include one to two annual book sales, socials, cultural activities and fundraisers.

Membership forms can be accessed online at www.nicholls.edu/library/friends/.

To reserve your seat at the luncheon, join and register prior to Friday, March 9, by calling (985) 448-4646.
