Sponsor a Scholar A+ Event Planned for Oct. 18

Ever wanted to own an Alvin Batiste original folk art painting? Go on a dove hunt? Or perhaps have your very own Peyton Manning autographed football?

Well, your chance is coming on Wednesday, Oct. 18, when the 11th annual Sponsor a Scholar A+ Wine and Food Extravaganza will be held in the Cotillion Ballroom of the Bollinger Student Union beginning at 7 p.m.

In additional to sampling outstanding dishes, wines and beers from over a dozen restaurants and other vendors, the evening will include a live auction of eight to 10 items and a silent auction of over 80 other collectibles, wines, dinner certificates, framed artwork, tools, cookbooks and many other items.  The local band Jazmine will provide entertainment.

Best of all, the fun evening benefits student scholarships. Sponsored by the Nicholls Foundation, the A+ event last year attracted over 800 guests and raised over $49,000 for scholarships and for aid to students affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita..

Live auction items, in addition to the three mentioned above, include beautifully framed original duck prints by Justice John Weimer, a week’s stay at a luxurious condominium in Old Santa Fe, New Mexico, an overnight stay and guided fishing trip for four at Cajun Resort, two rare prints of the internationally famous Lagniappe on the Bayou (1980 and 1981), and fine wines from the collection of George and Shirley Picou of Schriever.

“Gold” sponsorships are $500 and include 20 tickets.  Tickets are $75 per couple or $50 for an individual.

Checks should be made payable to the Nicholls Foundation and can be purchased at the Office for Institutional Advancement in Picciola Hall. For more information, call Ext. 4134.
