Chevron Donates $70,000 to Bayou Habitat

The Bayou Area Habitat for Humanity (BAHFH) received a $70,000 contribution from Chevron habitatdonation.jpgCorporation to build the first home in South Lafourche for a Hurricane affected family.

Chevron – including its share of equity affiliates – is among the largest publicly traded integrated energy companies in the world in net proved crude oil and natural gas reserves. Chevron Corporation has a shorebase located in Leeville and hopes this contribution demonstrates the way in which the industry family is taking action to support the community.  Chevron employees have also stepped up by volunteering on Habitat’s construction site. Terry Autin, a Health, Environmental and Safety Representative for Chevron recruited several employees working on the Tahiti project out of Houston, Texas to volunteer on site as part of a team-building project.

Bayou Area Habitat has committed to building 100 houses in Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes for families who lost their home during last year’s hurricane season. In their first phase of construction BAHFH currently has over 35 houses being built for hurricane affected families in Bayou Blue, Terrebonne Parish. The development Habitat plans to begin in Galliano this fall will be the start of their second phase of construction. Twenty-six houses will be built in Earles Place Subdivision on Joan Ann Drive in Galliano. “We have been promising the South Lafourche community since last year that Habitat would build in this area and we are very excited to announce our plans to build in Galliano,” said Jeanne Autin, BAHFH’s executive director.

BAHFH has been an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International since 1997. Since their affiliation with Habitat International they have completed 38 homes in the Houma-Thibodaux Area. For more information about sponsoring a Habitat house or applying for a house in the Galliano area contact BAHFH at (985) 447-6999.
