Michael Lane Hawthorne, M.D., a Board Certified Pulmonary Medicine Specialist, was recently appointed to the active medical staff at Terrebonne General Medical Center (TGMC).

Dr. Hawthorne received his medical training from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport, LA where he also completed his residency and internship at Louisiana State University Medical Center.  He then completed a fellowship at Vanderbilt University School of Medical, where he studied and worked in the division of allergy, pulmonary and critical care medicine.

He was a part of a research program on pleural disease, which involved studies of various diseases of the pleura.  In addition, Dr. Hawthorne has conducted presentations and produced publications on topics such as empyema and pleura.

Dr. Hawthorne had a private practice in Pulmonary Medicine with Pulmonary Associates in Mobile, AL.  Prior to that he was the attending physician in general medicine at the VA Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee and also worked at Skyline Medical Center as a CCU physician.

His board certifications include:  American Board of Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine (subspecialty Pulmonary Diseases), American Board of Internal Medicine (subspecialty Critical Care).  He is also licensed in the state of Alabama. 

During his medical and undergraduate schooling, Dr. Hawthorne was awarded several honors including the Excellence in Internal Medicine Award, Internal Medicine Resident of the Year and Chief Resident of Internal Medicine.  He is a member of the American Thoracic Society, American College of Chest Physicians, American Medical Association and the Mobile Medical Society.
