Internship applications will be accepted through Friday, March 3 from university and college students who want to work at government agencies while earning college credit during the 2006 summer and fall semesters through the Louisiana Center for Women and Government at Nicholls State University.
Interns will be assigned to work four days a week in a public sector office, usually in Baton Rouge. Recent assignments have included the Republican Legislative Delegation, the Attorney General’s Office, the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System, and the Center is always searching for new government offices to place interns.
On Fridays, interns attend class on the Nicholls State University campus. In addition to earning 15 hours of academic credit, interns will receive paid tuition for the semester, a dorm room, if needed, and a monetary stipend.
The Louisiana Center for Women and Government Internship Program is open to both women and men of any major enrolled at a Louisiana college or university who have completed 60 hours of college credit or who are entering their last semester of an associate degree program. During the internship, students may not enroll in other courses or hold other employment. Interns are selected by a committee on a competitive basis.
Applications for the summer and fall internships are due Friday, March 3. Applicants need to send an application packet that includes a completed application form, one-to-two-page statement of interest, official college transcripts, three letters of recommendation and a resume to the Internship Selection Committee, Attn: Dr. Rose M. Harris, Louisiana Center for Women and Government, Nicholls State University, P.O. Box 2062, Thibodaux, LA 70310.
