The Office of Continuing Education at Nicholls State University is offering a notary exam study course in February and March.
The non-credit class is designed to help participants prepare to take the Notarial Examination. It is also appropriate for citizens who wish to learn more about Louisiana law.
To qualify to take the notarial examination, participants must be at least 18 years of age and registered voters in the parish in which they wish to apply for a commission.
William G. Yates is the course instructor. He received his degree from Louisiana State University Law School in 1966. He served with the U.S. Air Force as a special agent in the Office of Special Investigations and then began his private law practice in Houma, which included 11 years as assistant district attorney. His practice includes personal injury, criminal defense, domestic relations, and successions.
The class will meet 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday the weeks of Feb. 20, March 6 and March 20. Registration is $155 before Feb. 13 and $160 thereafter.
