Upcoming Program

April 5: Jambalaya Writers’ Conference will feature lectures and panels on poetry, prose, editing, and

publishing. Published authors and poets, agents and publishing representatives will be speakers throughout the day. This year's keynote speaker is F. Paul Wilson, science fiction and horror thriller author. He has published more than thirty books, and the tenth in his Repairman Jack series, Harbingers, was released in 2006. The conference is free and open to the public, but lunch and admission to Mr. Wilson's address is $25 before March 14, 2008. This program is funded by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by the Houma Regional Arts  Council and Friends of the Terrebonne Public Library.

*Date change* RELIC: Drs. Daryl Holmes and Margaret Minor will lead this free six-week discussion program entitled “Elizabeth I of England and her Times.” It will offer a biography, military and diplomatic history, social history and a look into the English world as seen in Shakespearian mind. This program will be held on six consecutive Wednesdays beginning April 9 through May 14 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Main Library in the distance education classroom. All reading material is supplied and registration is required. Books packets are ready for pick-up. This program is sponsored by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities.

 

Exhibits at the Main Library

  • M & M candy items and dispensers display can be viewed in the children’s display case.
  • Then & Now exhibit of old and new item by Roger Bourgeois on display in the lobby.
  • Salvador Dali: The Halsman Photographs on display March through May. Friends and colleagues Philippe Halsman and Salvador Dali met once a year in the US to collaborate and discuss art, world events, and anything else that struck their fancy. During most of these visits, Halsman's camera was not far. Portraits of Dale taken by Halsman have becomes some of the most famous and most recognizable works of art in the world. The Terrebonne Parish Library System is proud to display ten of these photographic portraits. This exhibit is organized by Blair-funded by a grant from the Louis P. Saia Foundation and the Friends of the Terrebonne Public Library.
  • “So Much More than Just a Map” exhibit on display on the 2nd floor. This traveling exhibit is from the Louisiana State Museum.

Antique Glass Bottle Collection by Mr. Elston Marceaux displayed on the 2nd floor through May 30.
